HISTORY
Someya Chikatoshi sensei (shown left) was the founder of Meifu Shinkage-ryu. He was born in Chiba, Japan in 1923 into a family descended from Samurai. After serving as a Marine surgeon, he became a medical doctor, practicing in Tokyo.
He studied Katori Shinto-ryu as a student of Sugino Yoshio sensei and became certified as a master. He was especially attracted to Shurikenjutsu and so he also researched schools such as Shirai-ryu, Chishin-ryu and Mouen-ryu. In the 1960s he established his own school, naming it Meifu Shinkage-ryu. He published a number of books such as "Shuriken Giho" and "Kakushibukijutsu Nyumon" in an attempt to spread accurate information on Shurikenjutsu and to revive interest in the art.
In 1995, Someya sensei nominated Otsuka Yasuyuki sensei to be his successor before passing away in 1999. Otsuka sensei has continued to work hard to spread Meifu Shinkage-ryu, publishing books such as "Shurikenjutsu no Susume" and travelling around the world to teach seminars for his students.
